Fourth of July in New York City

July 4th, 2012 |  Published in Brooklyn News

brooklyn newsHappy Fourth of July Brooklynites! Today we can expect plenty of celebrations across the city, despite the so-so weather. There will be plenty of hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill and of course, fireworks. For those interested in fireworks better than what your neighbor sets off, those in Brooklyn will have to venture into Manhattan tonight.

This year, just like every other year for the past 36 years, Macy’s will provide the city with a truly spectacular fireworks show –the largest show in the country. The fireworks can be seen from the West side of the island. Yes, there will be extra train and bus service tonight to accommodate. Pick a spot anywhere you can see the sky above the Hudson River –so along 12th street and below 59th Street. The show will begin around 9:20 pm but get to a spot early to avoid huge crowds and delays.

And as usual the NYPD reminds us all that fireworks are illegal in the state. Anyone caught could be “arrested.” There are even rewards up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of people with illegal fireworks. Good luck with that one! Remember to be safe this Independence Day and enjoy the show!
