Songs In The Key Of G Train

July 2nd, 2012 |  Published in Brooklyn, Brooklyn events, Brooklyn News

The “Save the G Train” movement has been going on for some time now. Linking North Brooklyn to Brownstone, the train is now the center of a songwriting contest. Brooklyn Brewery sponsored competition unsigned acts to compose G train inspired tunes and submit the videos for a chance to win a trip to Sweden (a buzz worthy place for new music).

Anybody interesting in joining this contest has until 5 PM on July 24th to submit their song. It can be of any genre, using any instrument, so long as it’s YouTube or Vimeo. The Brooklyn Brwery will select five finalists from the submissions and request Facebook fans to vote for the winner. The lucky individual will get an airline ticket to Sweden for the Debaser music festival.

The contest is also a way of drawing much desired attention to the G, and prove its importance to the neighborhoods. The decision to cut the G-train stops has yet to be determined and many organizations are trying to remind the MTA that the G is not only a long-standing convenience, but a necessity for Brooklyn business in those neighborhoods.

So, are you going to write the modern day “Take The “A” Train” (except it’s G)?
