Apparently it’s not even online on websites like Match.com or OKCupid. It’s at Brooklyn Bowl on Wednesday nights. Brooklynites who are tired of the bar scene might want to try their hand at a singles bowling league. Jake Reuben, founder of Singles Social Sports, wanted to launch a winter league after the success of his softball league.

There are about 100 members divided into eight teams, four guys and four girls on each team. The league lasts seven weeks, giving you plenty of time to potentially find a mate, or at least some people who know how to handle large balls. But don’t feel ashamed if you need bumpers. No one is expecting you to be that great. Actually, the worse you are, the more adorable you look to others. Or at least that works to a woman’s advantage. Even if you don’t find your soulmate, the fee is only $100 which is much cheaper than going to Brooklyn Bowl on your own.

Get a cute pair of bowling shoes, because those ugly shoes are totally in, and see if you can manage a love strike –dorky pun intended.

The basketball team the New Jersey Nets started moving it’s business operations to Brooklyn, New York a little over a year ago with the legal team setting up shop in the new MetroTech building. The business end will be moving in February.

The new offices are only one subway stop away from the new Barclay center. This new enormous sports center was once eyed as the spot for a new Brooklyn Dodgers location in the 1950s. However, this building, which was begun in March of 2010, is now going to be a state of the art, modern, and hopefully profitable location for the newly named Brooklyn Nets.

It’s been a long, hard road for those involved in the franchise. Several potential lawsuits and a nomadic existence have plagued the team. They started in the ABA in Teaneck, NJ before moving to Long Island. In 1977, they were admitted to the NBA and moved back to New Jersey. From that time on they lead a troubled existence losing four seasons in a row and being sued by their landlord, The Prudential Center. They’re finally getting a (hopefully) permanent home in Brooklyn, New York.

Big Bruise: Week 16

PANTHERS 41, GIANTS 9

The Giants saved their worst for last.

After 34 years at Giants Stadium, they said goodbye in pathetic and humiliating fashion Sunday, getting pointed by the Carolina Panthers, 41-9, in one of their most embarrassing, performances ever at the Meadowlands. In a must-win game and with a chance to save their disappointing season, they barely showed a pulse.

And after 283 games here, they slammed the door on both the stadium and their 2009 season, too.

At least, it felt that way. The truth is that while the Giants (8-7) showed no signs of life Sunday, they are still alive … at least for the next few hours. If somehow the hapless Washington Redskins are able to beat the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night, the Giants will still have a mathematical shot at a playoff berth heading into their finale next Sunday at Minnesota.

But they certainly didn’t play like a team worthy of a playoff berth. They said they were determined to put on a show for their loyal fans, especially the ones who have been priced out of the new, $1.7 billion stadium they’ll move into in 2010. But instead they gave everyone a reason to go home early as they came out as flat as the swamp around them and were shutout in the first half for the second time in the last five games.

As a result, the Giants were absolutely pounded by the Panthers (7-8), who scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to open up a 24-0 halftime lead. They got a 29-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Stewart and two touchdown passes from quarterback Matt Moore.

In typical Giants fashion, though, things could have – should have – been much better. Their offense looked crisp as they marched down the field on the opening drive, bullying their way to the Panthers’ 26 yard line. They even scored a touchdown on a 26-yard pass from Eli Manning to Steve Smith – or so it seemed.

The play was called back because of a holding penalty on fullback Madison Hedgecock. And two players later, Mario Manningham fumbled away the ball and the Giants’ chance to score any points at all on their opening drive. Seven minutes later the Panthers were up 3-0 and on their way to a rout.

It was 31-0 Panthers before the Giants even got on the board, thanks to a four-play touchdown drive to open the second half which ended with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Steve Smith. That was enough for some of the already angry fans to start heading for the parking lot early.

And that left the Giants to close their home in front of a very sparse crowd.

Perhaps that was for the best, though, because they had booing the Giants since early in the second quarter and the Giants never responded. Given the circumstances and the stakes, it might have been the worst and most embarrassing performance by a Giants team in Giants Stadium – as bad as “The Fumble” in 1978 or the 23-0 postseason loss to the Panthers in 2005.

On the bright side, it can’t get any worse for the Giants … at least not inside Giants Stadium anymore.

It should be a very busy weekend for high school fans in the borough this weekend as two championships will be decided on Sunday, while two other teams will compete for the two berths at next weekend’s PSAL Championship game.

FOOTBALL CUP CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

In the Football Cup Championship, Automotive High School of Greenpoint will face South Bronx at the Midwood Athletic Complex at 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Both teams are 11-0 heading into the title tilt, however, the Pistons earned the number 1 seed by virtue of a stronger strength of schedule.

The Pistons are led by senior quarterback Maurice Edwards, who completed 63 percent of his passes this season for 1,328 yards and 15 touchdown passes against only three interceptions. In the Pistons’ semi-final 20-0 win over Information Technology High School of Long Island City, Queens, Edwards threw for two touchdowns, while Dwon Williams returned a punt for a touchdown.

The Piston defense sacked IT’s quarterback 10 times, intercepted him once, and recovered a lost fumble. IT’s offense was held to 195 yards of total offense, numbers which were aided by 10 tackles for loss by the Piston defense. The Pistons, who are seeking their first championship in their four year history, earned their first winning season last year, however they missed the playoffs.

South Bronx defeated Petrides of Staten Island 44-12 last week to reach the Football Cup championship…

FOOTBALL BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

In the Football Bowl Championship, Thomas Jefferson of East New York (9-1) takes on August Martin (7-3) of Queens on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Midwood Athletic Complex. The title tilt is a re-match of a September 18 regular season game in which the Jefferson Orange Wave defeated Martin 18-12.

Ricky Joseph led the Orange Wave with 179 yards passing, a touchdown pass, and a touchdown run, however, he did give up two interceptions. Kadeem Bailey ran for 166 yards and scored one touchdown of his own. The Orange Wave defense sacked Martin quarterbacks four times, forced three interceptions, and picked up 10 tackles for loss…

IF YOU GO: Midwood Athletic Complex, located on East 17th Street between Avenue K and Avenue L, Midwood, is two blocks east of the Brighton Line. Take the (Q) train to either the Avenue J or Avenue M stations and walk two blocks west. TA bus routes that run near Midwood Athletic Complex include the B-6 along Avenue J, the B-9 along Avenue M and at Ocean Avenue and Avenue L (three blocks east), the B-49 along Ocean Avenue, and the B-68 along Coney Island Avenue (six blocks west)…

CITY CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS PREVIEW

Both semi-finals of the PSAL City Championship will take place in Brooklyn tomorrow; both games are rematches from earlier reguar season contests against teams from Staten Island.

In one semi-final, Fort Hamilton will host Curtis of Staten Island. Fort Hamilton defeated Curtis 38-24 on September 12 on Staten Island; the Tigers jumped out to a 31-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Senior running back Alton Richardson led the Tigers with 97 yards rushing and three touchdowns, senior quarterback Frank Laino threw for 158 yards and a touchdown, while Brandon Reddish caught four of Laino’s passes for 109 yards and a touchdown.

In the other semi-final, 2nd seeded Erasmus Hall (10-1) hosts 3rd seed Tottenville of Staten Island (9-2) in East Flatbush. The Dutchmen are seeking to avenge a 21-8 loss to the visiting Pirates on October 30.

The Dutchmen will have to contain Tottenville’s senior running back Marvin Staten, who ran for 236 yards and accounted for the Pirates’ three touchdowns in the regular season match-up three weeks ago. The Dutchmen as a team were able to rack up 200 yards as a team, however, they proved to be no match for Staten’s individual performance.

Kickoff for both games will be 12:oo p.m. The winners will face off in the City Championship game next Saturday at a site to be determined.

IF YOU GO: The Fort Hamilton-Curtis game will be played at Fort Hamilton High School’s stadium, located on 85th Street between Narrows Avenue and Colonial Road. The B-16 bus stops along 86th Street and is accessible from the (R) shuttle bus operating this weekend at 86th Street and 4th Avenue. The B-37 bus along 3rd Avenue is three blocks east of the stadium.

The Erasmus Hall-Tottenville game will be played at Erasmus Field at Avenue M and McDonald Avenue, Midwood. The stadium is accessible via the (F) train, between Bay Parkway and Avenue N stations. The B-6 bus stops at Bay Parkway and McDonald Avenue; the B-9 bus stops at Avenue N and McDonald.
